The Rare Beauty Brow Gel Changed My Life—Hear Me Out!

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been called dramatic a time or two. What can I say? I’m a Cancer who has heightened emotions. And as a beauty writer, you can probably guess I’ve had some jaw-dropping reactions to beauty products. Among them? The DANESSA MYRICKS Yummy Skin Foundation, RODIAL Latte Lowlighter, and CHARLOTTE TILBURY Hollywood Flawless Filter, to name a few. But would I call them literally life-changing? That may be an exaggeration.
The RARE BEAUTY brow gel (formally known as the RARE BEAUTY Brow Harmony Flexible Lifting Gel), on the other hand? No exaggeration, truly life-changing. I say this because my eyebrows are my biggest insecurity. When it comes to body parts, you can cover them up. Your brows? Those are front and center, 24/7. They truly, genuinely change the appearance of your entire face, and there’s an art to making them look good. So when my sparse, overplucked brows of the ‘90s suddenly (check them out in my before shot below) make my face look symmetrical, you better believe it’s changed my life, my confidence, and obviously my photos.

But enough about me. If you want to see for yourself if the $21 tube lives up to the hype, allow me to offer you my step-by-step tutorial below (with an accompanying TikTok I filmed earlier this year).
It's about glam time you treated yourself.

Why RARE BEAUTY Brow Harmony Flexible Lifting Gel Isn’t Like the Others
The first thing I noticed when I unscrewed my first tube of RARE BEAUTY brow gel was the formula’s consistency. It was thicker and creamier than brow gels I’d used prior. I think in the current era of TikTok-famous brow gels, brands are catering overall to a younger demographic. In other words, they aren’t targeting consumers who went a little tweezer-happy in the ‘90s. So what I’ve noticed from trying these viral sensations is they’re great for keeping thick—not sparse—brows in place.
The only two other brow gels I’ve been able to use in a pinch are the REFY Brow Sculpt Gel and the ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Brow Freeze Gel.

How to Use the RARE BEAUTY Brow Gel
Unlike some other brow gels, this one is totally user-friendly. Here’s what I do:
1. Dip the Spoolie Into the Tube
A little goes a long way with this gel, so dip your spoolie in once, swirl it around and pull it out. If you see a lot of visible gel appear when you pull it out, tap some excess on the side of the tube’s opening.
2. Glide the Spoolie All the Way Through Your Brows
Here’s where you can color outside the lines, so to speak. Take your gel-covered spoolie and glide it back and forth all the way through the brows so that it looks like a matted mass. If the brows look too clean or organized, you’re doing it wrong. You want those hairs completely coated.
3. Use the Spoolie to Shape Your Brows
Let the coated brows sit for about 10 seconds (don’t wait too much longer or the formula will dry up). Then, using a heavy hand, force the brows into desired shape with the spoolie. You’ll want to follow the natural direction of the brows, pushing them up and over to give a laminated look. If you have sparse brows, don’t expect them to suddenly fill up, but you should at least see them uniformly in shape.
4. Use a Brow Pencil to Shade Any Sparse Areas
Take the brow pencil of your choice in a shade slightly lighter than your natural. My pick is the RARE BEAUTY Brow Harmony Precision Pencil. Gently (emphasis on gently) apply light strokes in the same direction throughout to the sparse areas.
5. Retrace Your Entire Brow With Leftover Spoolie Gel (Optional)
If you feel like your brows are fine as is, there’s no reason to risk messing them up. But if you think they need one more lock into place after the application of pencil, take whatever’s leftover from that original spoolie dip, and go over the exact shape once again.
6. Cover-Up Any Mess With Concealer
Take a tiny brush and a tiny amount of your favorite concealer, and gently glide the brush under the brow to gently carve them into shape, while tidying up any out-of-line pigment. Doing the same above the brow is optional. Some people like leaving it alone for a more natural look.
Final Thoughts
If you feel like your eyebrows make your face look totally out of whack, you’re not alone. I’ve struggled with mine my entire life. First they were too bushy, so I plucked them pin-thin. Since then, they’ve been too thin and I’ve struggled with bringing them to life. Thanks to the RARE BEAUTY Brow Harmony Flexible Lifting Gel, I’ve been able to shape my brows with a laminated-like finish. Finding the right brow gel (whether it’s this one or another) has the ability to change your entire face. Much like kissing frogs before you find your prince, I’ve gotten quite cozy with other gels before I found the one.
