When you think of fall fragrances, scents like amber, bergamot, or chai might come to mind. Yet after the release of “Practical Magic 2”—and of course, our annual rewatch of the original—we’ve been reaching for scents that feel a little more witchy. ‘Tis the season, after all.
Don’t get us wrong: We love a classic sandalwood or vanilla scent, but something about this season has us craving scents that are a little damper, darker, and smokier. Think a blend of spicy dark plum and saffron, or an earthy patchouli and oakmoss pairing.
Something wicked this way comes, and spoiler alert, it smells amazing. Ahead, see why witchy fragrances are taking over this fall and what scents we find absolutely spellbinding.

Why Are Witchy Perfumes Trending?
Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock aren’t the only ones putting on their pointy hats recently: American Horror Story’s new Coven series premiered last week, animated film “Hexed” is scheduled to premiere next month, and fine, we’ll admit that we miss the last two years of “Wicked.” In that sense, it doesn’t surprise us that Pinterest’s Hobbies and Trend report for 2026 names botany, crystal charms, and witchy kitchen habits as some of this year’s biggest phenomena. Searches for “herbal apothecary” are up 595% on the platform, while “learn astrology” is up 733%. Terms like “witchcraft crystals,” “foraging basket,” and “dream journaling” have also seen growing search numbers.
Beauty-wise, we’ve already seen the rise of soft goth glam, popularized by celebs like Gabriette and Jenna Ortega. It’s all about smoky eyes, smudged cool-toned lips, and moody, slightly messy hair. If you love an undone glam, a witchy fragrance seems like a natural next step.
We’ve all smelled scents that are simply magic, but what really makes a fragrance witchy is its mysterious and seductive vibe. Imagine crushed herbs, incense, damp forest floors, smoke, dark fruits, and old woods. Sound like a vibe? Keep reading to see the scents we find most bewitching.

Are you a good witch or a bad witch? Regardless, you’ll appreciate the magic of this fragrance. It’s a bold cedarwood scent spiced with cardamom and black tea, with a dash of vanilla cream to soften up the edges. If you’re manifesting a cozy fall, this one’s for you.
2. HERETIC Nosferatu Eau de Macabre

Developed in collaboration with Nosferatu—the epic vampire film starring Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp—this is one supernatural scent. Lilacs, vegan ambergris, and petrichor combine to create a fragrance that’s both airy and ominous. According to the brand, it smells like “an encounter with an apparition in the cold, damp caves of Count Orlok's castle.” Ghostly!
3. THE NUE CO Past Time

Amber resin, rhubarb, and black pepper give this fragrance a rich and smoky sweetness, while coconut milk and vetiver add a creamy touch. Reviewers describe the drydown as woody and smoky, or as the brand puts it, “like a memory you can’t place—but can’t let go of.” As a bonus, the witchy purple and green packaging of this perfume will make it look like a potion sitting on your vanity.
4. COMMODITY FRAGRANCES Moss Expressive

Consider this fragrance the perfect balance of earthy and elegant. Oakmoss, cedarwood, and petitgrain make this scent reminiscent of a walk in the woods at dawn—think damp dirt, dewdrops, and early morning fog all at once.
5. SYD BOTANICA Earth Star

Notes of nutmeg, elderflower, and osmanthus tea, anchored by porcini and moss, make this fragrance smell like an enchanted forest. If you’re truly looking to emulate owning an apothecary in a small Massachusetts town à la Sandra Bullock, here’s your chance.
6. LE LABO Violette 30

Cracking open the old spellbook? You won’t want to forget this mysterious matching scent, inspired by flowers preserved in Victorian-era texts. Centered around the rare white violet, this fragrance features notes of cedarwood, incense, saffron, white tea, and a hint of guaiacwood. It’s bookish, woody, and sensual.
7. ATELIER DES ORS Lune Féline

Every witch needs her familiar, and we guarantee you’ll go batty for this one. Sweet fig, guava, and passion fruit notes balance out the scent and make it surprisingly addictive.
9. DIPTYQUE Tempo Eau de Parfum

Even if you’re not a patchouli lover, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised by this nuanced fragrance. With a woody, spicy, and slightly chocolate dry-down, this scent reads herbal (and haunted). Consider it your go-to for perusing the forest by candlelight.
10. ANDREA MAACK Coven Eau de Parfum

With a name like “Coven,” it’s no surprise this perfume is considered the most timeless witchy fragrance. Notes of whiskey, oakmoss, and cedarwood give off a mossy scent reminiscent of a foggy forest, while bitter green accents recall a poison apple. If you love the smell of a rainy day, you’ll love this fragrance.
